I am excited to be one of the artists featured in the Good to Know Zine’s #6 issue at Pikaland! The Good to Know Zine at Pikaland.com is an awesome collection of thoughts and advice from illustrators based on a theme for that particular issue. This issue’s question was about jealousy:

Do you get jealous/envious when you view other people’s work? Does it make you a better artist? How do you get over it?

You can purchase the zine via PDF or get a physical copy, and if you’re interested you can answer issue #7’s question!

Check it out Here!

The opening to the Munny show was Friday, and it seemed like a huge success! I wasn’t sure what to expect with it being at the Savannah Mall, but it was packed and full of great food and awesome Munnys.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m going to be selling prints and goodies at the Savannah Market Bazaar this weekend. You guys in Savannah, GA should all come check it out– there are plenty of nifty vendors selling anything from CDs to arts and crafts. If you have facebook, you can view the event here or go to the web site at http://www.newmoonofsavannah.com/smb.

I’ll be selling my artist friend Tamara’s awesome prints too, so even if you think my work is fruit bat poop, come check out hers!

It’s from 9 AM to 2 PM Saturday, April 11th, in the top floor of the Robinson Parking Garage (York & Montgomery.) That’s RIGHT by the SCAD student center. You can’t miss it!

In other news, the opening for the Munny show is this Friday, April 10 at 6 pm at the Savannah Mall. My Cleocatra munny and illustration will be there with a bunch of other kickin’ Munnys. In other other news, I’ll also have work at the 180 Building’s show “All Creatures Great and Small,” which opens April 17th in the 180 Building at Drayton & 31st St.

Phew!

It seems really weird and awkward to start a Facebook fan page for yourself, but everyone on Etsy and beyond seems to have one and it should be a really easy way to let people know of events, etc. It’s not the same as your normal profile– I think it’s geared toward business and professional applications. So if you wanna keep up with my illustration news and events, feel free to follow my Page as a fan!

It’s pretty pathetic and empty right now, which is why I need some fans. Leave a comment and say “hi!” and I will go check out your Facebook Page too!

Since my threadless frolic didn’t work out, I decided to take the design I had made for it and rework it for this totally NEW T-shirt submission site. I figure since this one is just getting started, I have more of a chance! They have a limit of 1 color so I had to realllllly rework the image. But I think it still works like this. I think it can go on basically any color shirt. Anyway, please vote and leave a comment!

Etsy Shop is Live!

I’ve been working nonstop on getting my Etsy design and shop all set up, getting enough items to sell (didn’t want to open a shop with only two items…) and taking trips to Office Max to print, laminate, and cut all sorts o’ stuff (Thanks to Matt with his patience!) And yesterday I felt ready enough to start putting up items. It’s a lot more work than it seems like! I made a lightbox out of a cardboard carton and tissue paper, photographed a zillion items, and tried to perfect eye-catching descriptions for the item pages.

Luckily it’s already paid off! I got a nibble within an hour of posting, and then today someone bought one of my bookmarks! I can only hope the luck I had with a quick first sale sticks around.

Anyway, I’m having a ton of fun already just tweaking my new shop, and I highly recommend any artist or crafter to check Etsy out for your own shop! And of course I’d love if you came and visited mine. :} Here’s a link! http://jadefrolics.etsy.com

I’ve been pretty busy with the Holiday season this year, and this has led to a distinct lack of posting (and, unfortunately, promoting) on my part! I do have some things to share, but it needs to wait until after Christmas as it involves a scathing review of some Christmas gifts I ordered from Zazzle. (Grrrr!)

Another reason for my absence is that I have completely switched over to a new web host! It takes a few days for the domain to point to the correct new server all over the world, so I refrained from blogging in case my post disappeared into some terrifying abyss during the switch.

I am really happy with my new host, and as an added bonus they dole out $75 for referring new customers. Considering that pays for my hosting for the whole year, I would be delighted if anyone decides to check them out! Go compare hosts for yourself– I’m not saying mine is right for everyone’s needs, but if you’re looking for a new host feel free to see if you like Web Hosting Pad!

First of all, I’ve updated my portfolio section to include lots of new images. Check it out!

I’ve done it! And I must say I am pretty proud. Yes, my site looks exactly the same… but guess what! It now contains NO tables. Yep, none! I spent the last few days expanding on my knowledge of CSS (One of my goals in my last post) and managed to redo my site using only styled divs, floats, and all that other CSS goodness. The code is so much nicer without all those nestled tables (especially on the portfolio page) so I am quite pleased.

I even found a great way to get rid of javascript rollovers. Check out this page if you’re interested in some clean, image-based rollovers using CSS: Image Sprite CSS Navigation.

It might look a little confusing in the start but once you change your mindset from thinking in grids to thinking about the purpose of various page elements, it’s actually much easier than dealing with tables and the like.

For anyone who isn’t sure why they would ever give up tables, read this site: Why tables for layout is stupid.
